Asset Development
Individual Development Accounts
(IDAs)
Individual Development Accounts, or IDAs, are special savings
accounts that allow people with modest means to save for the
future. Typically, someone enrolled in an IDA saves $10 a week
toward any one of the following things:
- Home ownership/home repair
- small business start up
- College or university education
Money is saved in special accounts for 1-2 years and at the end of the
savings period, the money is matched, up to $2,000. This means
that you could save $2,000 of your own money and the IDA program will
give you another $2,000!
In Delaware County, two groups offer IDA programs (sometimes
known as Family Savings Accounts). Contact one of these
organizations to learn more about their IDA programs and to see if you
qualify.
